What are pop rivets and Spyder jack nuts?

Pop rivets are a type of mechanical fastener used when access to the rear side is limited and used in conjunction with a rivet gun, rivet tool or pneumatic hammer. The rivet consists of two main parts, those being the rivet body and mandrel. The rivet is placed into a pre-drilled hole and the rivet gun / tool is placed over the rivet. The rivet gun then pulls the mandrel into the rivet body, which makes it expand and grip the parts to be joined.

Spyder jack nuts have been given the name due to their unique appearance when tightened. The nut splays out on the blind side with a series of legs that grips the material, hence the name Spyder jack nuts.

What are pop rivets and jack nuts used for?

Pop rivets are primarily used to allow high strength joints in a range of different materials that include metals, plastic, wood, and leather. They are used in a wide range of industries including the manufacture of white goods, electronics, DIY, general engineering, and the automotive industry to name but a few.

The jack nut, also known as a Spyder nut is a versatile nut, ideal for uneven surfaces and clamping two pieces of metal together. It fits well with hollow walls enabling you to screw bolts in to centre of the jack nut for a secure fixing.

What are pop rivets and Spyder jack nuts made from?

Pop rivets can be manufactured from various materials but here at Fusion Fixings they are supplied in lightweight aluminium, steel and A2 stainless steel. The jack nuts are supplied in steel with a zinc plating.
