What are Cup Square Carriage Bolts?

Cup Square Carriage Bolts, known as Coach Bolts, are a type of fastener that feature a domed head and fully threaded shaft. Under the bolt head is a square section which is specifically designed to sit in a recess of the wooden material. This allows the bolt to lock in place when tightening into soft material.

What are Cup Square Carriage Bolts used for?

The bolts are primarily used for fixing timber to timber and timber to metal. Carriage bolts feature a fully threaded shaft and under the bolt head is a square section which is specifically designed to sit in a recess of the wooden material. This allows the bolt to lock in place when tightening into soft material.

The carriage bolts also carry a secondary appeal. The dome head of the bolt also carries some aesthetic appeal due to their rounded head which can give a good, finished appearance to many applications. This appeal to the finishing is certainly useful when used in building wooden decking, decorative fencing, wooden furniture and play equipment etc.
