Split Pins

Typically made from thick wire with a semi-circular profile that is bent double. The pin ends can be passed through a hole in a shaft or fixing, like a castle nut, and can then be bent around to help secure the item in place.

What is a split pin?

A split pin is made from thick wire with a semi-circular profile and bent in two with a slightly looped top. The ends of the pin can be bent around to hold the pin in place.

What are split pins used for?

Split pins are used as a fastener and designed to be inserted through a hole in a shaft or fixing like a castle nut, and bent into place which in turn helps to hold the item in place.

What are split pins made from?

Split pins are made from wire with a semi-circular cross section and are supplied from Fusion Fixings in A2 stainless steel, A4 stainless steel and steel with a bright zinc plating (BZP). All offer levels of resistance to corrosion but the A4 stainless steel offer the highest and most robust resistance.
